COVID variant called BA.2.86 has been detected in our very own country, South Africa according to the information given by World Health Organization.
Here is some facts about this COVID BA .86:
• BA 2.86 is a variant of SARS-CoV- 2 has undergone multiple genetic changes compared to other variants.
• SARS-CoV-2 subvarient BA.2.86 is variant under monitoring by the World Health Organization.
• As of 28 August 2023, cases of Ba 2.86 BEEN REPORTED ACROSS Africa, America, Europe and Middle East
• BA 2.86 has more than 30 additional mutations compared to the original to the original BA 2 lineages
• There have been no reports of changes in the presentations or symptoms of BA 2.86 when compared to previously reported variants.
Even though we are being promised that this virus is no different from the other one please let’s be cautious. The last pandemic stripped us down, the last thing we need as country is to downplay everything because we will never know when the real danger is right in front us. Get your flu shots, sanitize your hands and wear your masks in crowded places. Yes, all this sounds rather stupid but we rather be stupid than died right? Right.
